Murphy's Law

Murphy's law states that: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.” The 45 th biannual meeting of the Equal Justice Foundation was scheduled to meet May 2, 2026. Then Murphy stepped in and Secretary Mogon's editor had to have her attend a press event that morning. Next, the water pump on Director Alvarez's truck went out and left him stranded in Denver. Director Corry does not have Zoom capability, nor did he have Director Baskerville's Zoom address as Mogon typically takes care of that. So, needless to say, the meeting was canceled.

However...

Veteran Trauma Court meeting

Top

On May 1st Alvarez and I met with the District Attorney for Colorado's 4th Judicial District (El Paso and Teller Counties) to discuss possible changes and improvements to the veteran trauma court (VTC). Alvarez and I (both of us Marines) working in conjunction with Judge Ronald Crowder (Army) pioneered veteran courts in Colorado in mid-2008. Now District Attorney Michael Allen (Navy) became the first prosecutor assigned to the VTC back in 2010.

Discussion centered around using a way to process veterans suffering from the wounds of their service through the justice system and getting them needed treatment without leaving them with a criminal conviction on their records whenever feasible. Some concerns emerged as state law now permits many criminal records to be sealed from public view but still available to law enforcement. That approach helps in the civilian world but hurts any veteran needing a security clearance, a common issue in El Paso County (Colorado Springs) the third largest concentration of military forces in the United States and home to some 90,000 veterans.

Another topic was the common association of PTSD/TBI with charges of domestic violence and other crimes. While the EJF laboriously collected crime statistics from 1998 to 2010, rarely did we find a woman arrested for domestic violence although social studies have consistently shown 50% of DV involves mutual combat and have always shown that women were the primary aggressor in 20-35% of all DV cases in the other half of all DV events. Thus, it was of interest to discover that the district attorney's office is now compiling crime statistics and finds that 26% of the arrests for DV are of females. Thus, his office has apparently moved toward equal justice! However, the DA also noted that roughly 50% of the time DV cases are dismissed or acquitted but we do not know if the dismissals are evenly weighted with regard to sex.

Of basic importance is the interest in saving a veteran's service dog (or emotional support dog) when they are arrested. Unless they have a relative or friend who can take the dog, and an officer who will cooperate, the dogs are transferred to a kennel and often lost to the veteran. Our position is that loss of emotional support increases the probability of recidivism and the difficulty a veteran faces attempting to deal with their demons.

While the DA agrees in principle, the logistics of getting the veteran's dog back to them upon release (or before) falls largely under the county sheriff and we are attempting to set up a meeting with him and his deputies to see what might be done. It might also be noted that hospitals now often have therapy dogs and it might be worthwhile to introduce such dogs into jail as there is a separate veteran pod.

Blame the males

Top

The EJF frequently points out that under current laws a man has to be functionally insane to marry and a drooling idiot to sire a child. The results have been catastrophic! To point to a few of the problems, birthrate is far below replacement level; at least 50% of marriages end in divorce; and studies show that roughly 90% of men in prison are the children of single mothers; to name a few of the problems.

Noted reporter Tucker Carlson recently posted an episode regarding such problems titled Fathers Wanted in which he presumes to address the question of what will it take to rebuild the West, and claims the answer is restoring fatherhood.

In a series of essays, Stephen Baskerville has taken Tucker to task on this simplification that places the burden for this catastrophe primarily on men. Stephen notes that Carlson says not a word about destructive, predatory government. In every other commentary Tucker produces some defective government action that needs our attention is described: wars in Iran and Ukraine, immigration, censorship, civil liberties, the economy. And quite rightly. The first job of a journalist is to keep the state accountable. But when it comes to destroying fathers and fatherhood (along with the US Constitution) Carlson is mute and state officials are safely beyond his scrutiny.

Thus, the crisis of fatherhood makes for good propaganda so long as it is clear that the causes are reducible to male behavior. In Tucker Caslson's world no responsibility rests with government policymakers or functionaries; and none with the feminists who created the welfare and divorce machines whose purpose was to eliminate unwanted fathers. In fact, the only mention of divorce, aside from lamenting and bemoaning it, is to say that it is a matter of men “stiffing” their wives (though virtually 100% of divorces involving children are filed by mothers).

Sad! Fight on, Stephen!

Usage of the EJF web sites continues to be very high. Daily our sites are visited by people in 140-150 countries who average around nearly 3,000 visits a day to roughly 12,000 pages total on our two sites (ejfi.org and dvmen.org). About 50% of our users are outside the United States, and Russia continues to have the largest number of users outside the U.S., averaging around 25% of the total.
