February 24, 2004, New Britain — A Lawlor Street woman was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of stabbing her 42-year-old boyfriend with a steak knife during a domestic dispute over an uneaten pizza, police said.

Barbara Tyc, 43, of 139 Lawlor St., is suspected of second-degree assault. She allegedly stabbed Richard Tyrell in the leg and the wrist at the couple's residence Saturday at about 11:30 PM, Sgt. Darren Pearson, police spokesman, said.

Tyrell was taken to New Britain General Hospital for treatment of his injuries following the altercation, Pearson said.

Police reports indicate officers also issued Tyrell a misdemeanor summons for third-degree assault because he allegedly attempted to strangle Tyc during the struggle.

Officers went to the Lawlor Street residence after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed at the couple's address.

Pearson said Tyc reportedly brandished a steak knife during an argument the couple was having about a portion of a leftover pizza. According to reports, Tyc became angry with Tyrell after he gave away half of an uneaten pizza to a friend. Tyc reportedly felt Tyrell should have shared the pizza with his mother. During the couple's struggle, Tyc stabbed Tyrell several times in the leg and struck him with the knife at least once in the wrist, police reported.
